March 2021 Honorable Mention - Baked Pasta with Italian Sausage and Herbed Cannellini Beans
This hearty, Nonna-style, stick to your ribs recipe, submitted to our recipe contest by Michael Watz, is the definition of comfort food. Congrats chef Michael, you win a deluxe gift box of Bella Sun Luci prodcuts! Dean Martin sang about "Pasta Fazool" in the song That's Amore, and if you love cooking then this dish will be your amore because it's fun to prep, cook and eat. Late winter like now in March, or any time of year is a good time for this combination of pasta, sausage, beans and very Italian flavorings like fennel, sun dried tomatoes and fresh herbs. Big...BIG...flavor!
Now, and at other times of year, because YOU'RE the chef, you can substitute out the sausage for simple ground beef, chicken, turkey (including leftovers), you can add bacon, and pretty much anything goes with the dish's foundation. Spicy or mild...a different kind of bean...the pasta shape of YOUR choice...this is one of those dishes that's wide open to interpretation.
